3 Not So Well-Known Google AdWords Tools
Working a lot with Google AdWords, I appreciate tools that can help me do my work more efficiently. These are some of my favourite free, and perhaps not so well-known, tools out there.
Note that this list is not a complete list of the tools you should use, but more like a list of the ones you perhaps don´t always remember to use, but that still could be of great value. So here we go, three recommendations for you.
1. Keyword Multiplier by Corey Salzano
We know for a fact that most searches consist of more than one keyword. Surveys from Hitwise show that approximately 75-80% of all searches are phrases of two keywords or more.
We know that buying phrases often makes us more relevant, hence better CTR, Quality Score and also conversion rates. Buying phrases of more than one keyword is by no doubt important, but it takes time combining keywords. Well, not if you use this tool. It will save you a lot of time, working on compiling your keyword-lists.
I know there are other tools doing kind of the same thing, and also Google has one. But this one is the simplest and best one out there. Go and try it yourself.
2. Google Ad Targeting Preview Tool
Working with ad copy is fun. But sometimes you just don´t have those good ideas and creativity that will make your ads perform better than your competitors. A really good tip is then to have a look at what advertisers in other markets do. How do they write their compelling ads? What do the highest ranked ads say, what do their titles look like, and what about their call to action and display URLs? Get great ideas by using this tool and discover what advertisers in other markets do.

3. AdWords Editor
Experienced search marketers would say that this one is very well known and shouldn´t be on this list. I disagree. I´ve met far too many clients and inhouse marketers that don´t use AdWords Editor, in fact most clients haven´t heard about it. Hence I include it on the list. It is by far the most important tool for you working with AdWords. You really can´t do the same work without it. So don´t even think twice. Download it now, it´s free and works for both Windows and Mac.
Bonus
As a bonus tool, even though it´s for Google Analytics, not AdWords - check out Eivind Savio´s Google Analytics Campaign URL builder with Short URL and Twitter posting. Tagging your campaigns is essential, and Eivind´s tool is a good one for doing this.

AdWords Editor and the Pemutator ( http://www.boxersoftware.com/thepermutator.htm ) are my favourite tools. Togther with Excel, they provide the large majority of functionality needed to set up and manage PPC campaigns.
Especially agree with your point about the importance of long-tail keywords. I recently did some research on searches containing different number of words (1-18 words) and found that searches of 5 words or more accounted for 21% of traffic and 40.5% of PPC conversions ( http://www.alanmitchell.com.au/techniques/benefits-of-long-tail-keywords/ ). Any tool which helps simplify long-tail management in PPC is definately a good thing.
Cheers,
Alan
